Safety Alert - CO risk from gas cookers

Despite earlier warnings about the dangers and extensive efforts by the manufacturers and Trading Standards, some boat owners could still easily have a cooker on board that could be potentially lethal from carbon monoxide poisoning.

This information is being provided in case a boat owner raises the issue in conversation; there is no expectation that BSS Examiners will check appliances for the models concerned in the recall notice or record model numbers of appliances in general.

Beko safety campaign information

If your customer has a gas cooker on their boat, they need to ask themselves the following questions:

  • Is it a Beko, Flavel or Leisure?
  • Does it have a separate overn and grill?
  • Does the serial number begin with 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08?

If the answers are yes, then they may have an affected model and should call Beko urgently on 0800 9172018 or go to http://www.beko.co.uk//CookerSafetyNotice for more information

Beko will arrange a free modification to theproduct to remove the risk linked to carbon monoxide poisoning

Beko has produced a small poster for club-rooms and marinas. It can be downloaded from the BSS public website news page here.

Note: this safety information is part of Beko's ongoing corrective action of old model, and does not affect any current appliance range.
